Apple Releases QuickTime Update for MacBook DisplayPorts

Apple has released a new QuickTime update for the new MacBook DisplayPort. The update allows the DisplayPort to play standard definition movies from iTunes. The software update is also for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Apple Inc on Tuesday released a new QuickTime update that allows external displays to play standard definition movies from iTunes. The software update comes after public scrutiny.

MacBook users complained that the new laptops would not play purchased movies from iTunes with HDCP. HDCP encryption is a new copy protection format which Apple uses on iTunes.

QuickTime 7.5.7 now includes the HDCP support. The problem addresses the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The new notebooks have Apple's Mini DisplayPort. It prevents HD content from being played on non-HDCP compliant displays. HDCP is a digital rights management (DRM) specification developed by Intel Corp.

MacBook users can either download the QuickTime 7.5.7 update from Apple's Web site, or directly from the software update control panel in Mac OS X.
