Articles - Top 2010 Hybrid Cars For Better Fuel Efficiency
We compiled this independent top cars list for 2010 earlier this summer, but many folks can't seem to find the original article. We are sending the list out again, however, keep in mind that several hybrid cars that could make this top 2010 list have been released since its original publication.
Top 2010 Cars For Fuel Economy
The order of this list does not represent rankings, ratings, or any kind of statistic. This is only a list of the popular cars that are available. We have to say that because we certainly don't want to upset Prius owners. For example, just because the Ford Fusion is the first item in this list does not mean it was ranked #1.
In addition, this is simply a list on cars, not SUVs or trucks. We are doing some road tests on some brand new cars that will eventually make this list. The auto industry is changing a bit and the new hybrids are the future way to save fuel while helping the environment.
Ford Fusion
Ford Motor Company has delivered just about everything that a consumer wants in their 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid car. The Ford Fusion is the most fuel-efficient mid-size vehicle today with an MPG rating of 41 City / 36 Highway. It has a starting price of $27,270 and is still illegible for a hybrid tax credit of $1,700 before October 1, 2009.
The Ford hybrid can operate up to 47 mph in the pure electric mode and can deliver more than 700 miles on a single tank of gas. Ford recently drove its hybrid more than 1,440 miles on one tank of gas while using driving techniques to conserve fuel. This was one of our favorite test drives.
Honda Insight EX
Honda Motor Co., Ltd is outselling other hybrid cars in Japan after introducing its 2010 Honda Insight EX. Sales in the United States continue to climb as consumers look to seek affordability and fuel-efficiency. Insight delivers an MPG rating of 40 City / 43 Highway.
The Insight hybrid is priced at $19,800, which is one of the most affordable cars on the market. The Honda car is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and includes the Drive-by-Wire throttle system which can deliver the most efficient drive ratio possible. The CVT technology provides the Insight with better fuel economy and acceleration in comparison to conventional transmissions.
Toyota Prius
Toyota is releasing its 2010 Toyota Prius, which is a third-generation hybrid. It has a long track record of proven reliability. The first Prius was launched in 1997. This car is one to keep an eye on as it offers the highest MPG rating of 51 City / 48 Highway.
Toyota Prius makes use of its electric water pump and its new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, which contributes to the engine's efficiency. The vehicle also requires no belts under the hood which can result in less potential maintenance. The driver can also receive feedback, from the multi-information display panel, which can provide help to acquire economical driving habits.
Mercury Milan
The 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid has one of the highest midsize cars MPG ratings. The Milan hybrid offers a fair price and can drive up to 47 miles per hour in hybrid electric modes. The base MSRP is $27,500.
The Mercury hybrid features an innovative dual-LCD SmartGauge cluster with EcoGuide which provides a four-level display to help you improve fuel efficiency. One of the nice things about this Mercury car is that it is capable of driving more than 700 miles on one tank of fuel. The propulsion system is also equipped with a combination with a permanent magnet electric motor powered by a nickel-metal hydride (NiMN) battery.
Lexus HS 250h
Watch out for this vehicle, it's hot! The Toyota luxury division has released pricing for its new 2010 Lexus Hybrid car. The Lexus HS 250h is one of the most affordable and economical luxury cars on the market and will debut late with a starting price of $34,200.
The automobile can achieve an impressive 35 mpg combined EPA rating. Standard equipment on the base model includes leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a ten-speaker sound system with subwoofer, and USB, iPod, and Bluetooth phone and audio interfaces. The car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and includes rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors, wood trim, and a comprehensive key fob memory system for each driver.
Conclusion
Hybrid sales are picking up with help of new government auto incentives. The Cash For Clunkers program offers up to $4,500 for your trade-in. This program will have an impact on the top cars for 2010 to come.
