Porsche has been quiet with its Macan compact SUV as it conducted road tests all over the world, all of which were undisguised prototypes, and all of these test vehicles still had tape over the headlights and taillights to conceal some new technology.
The tape concealed the lighting systems that the company plans to use, which appear to be Quad-LED headlights and are first for the carmaker.
Porsche has just released a teaser image of the Macan that shows the unique headlight system that the Macan will be getting. The headlights on the Macan appear to be Quad-LED headlights — which are a first for Porsche and any other manufacturer.
Porsche has been hinting that it has been hard at work innovating new lighting systems for their production cars. The first Porsche to be seen with the quad-LED lighting system was the stunning Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. The shooting brake/wagonized version of the Panamera debuted the four-point LED arrays up front, as well is in the rear, so it seems likely that this lighting will become a Porsche design signature going forward.
Powerpoint slides leaked from a recent dealer meeting suggest the Macan S will arrive packing a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo will boast a 3.6-liter force-fed unit, with both models receiving seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearboxes. Pricing is expected to range from $52,000 for the S model to $75,000 for the Turbo.
The Macan is expected to debut at next month’s Los Angeles Motor Show.
However, we wouldn’t be shocked if the Macan shows up at the concurrent press days for the Tokyo Motor Show.
