Apple Faces Patent Infringement Suit Over iPhone Web Browser

Imagine filing a patent last month only to discover that one of the top mobile devices on the market infringed on it. That's what technology firm EMG alleges. It claims that the technology used in the Apple iPhone Web browser has a patent obtained by them.

Apple is accused of infringing on a technology patent used in the iPhone. The suit alleges that Web browser navigation used in the smart phone infringes on a patent. The patent was just filed last month by EMG.

Apple Inc is facing a new patent infringement lawsuit. The suit was filed on Monday by EMG Technology LLC. The firm alleges that the Web browser used in the iPhone infringes on a patent obtained by them.

EMG was granted the patent last month. It is one of five patents for navigating the Internet on mobile devices and Internet protocol television.

Some technology firms familiar with the matter described EMG as a brand new company formed to exploit the technology covered by the patent. The iPhone was the first product investigated by EMG.

The patent covers the interface of reformatted versions of ordinary websites which is found in the Apple iPhone. Additional claims include the technology for manipulating a region of the touch screen for zooming and scrolling.

Other companies such as HTC Corp and Research In Motion Ltd, makers of BlackBerry mobile phones, also produce mobile devices that can display mobile Web sites. However, EMG has not considered suing those companies.
