Dunkin’ Donuts has come up with a new shredded pork donut to satisfy the tastes of its consumers in China.
In an area where the donut chain already has 150 stores, it plans on opening another 100 stores in the near future. Chief Executive Officer Nigel Travis tells Reuters in an interview that, “Donuts are a very flexible product. You can do savory donuts, you can do donuts with shredded pork — that’s in China.”
He also adds that, “We also have a range of other savory products that we have been testing and introducing country by country.”
In an area where American basketball is gaining in popularity Dunkin’ Donuts has hired Miami Heat star LeBron James in a multi-marketing agreement to help advertise the new pork donuts to Chinese consumers.
Dunkin’ Donuts is calling James’ roll in the advertisements for the new donuts as ‘brand ambassador.’
Travis went on to say of the combination of creating the pork donut and James likeness to sell them in China, “While we compete in very competitive markets, I think the key is to focus on the consumer, to understand their needs better than anybody and deliver on that.”
The company is also looking into creating a pork bagel and tea.
