The third and final winning ticket holder from last months record $656 million dollar MegaMillion’s jackpot from Illinois is finally ready to come forward and collect their portion of the prize.
“We are thrilled to announce that a single claimant has come forward and been confirmed as the official Illinois winner of the world record setting MegaMillion’s Jackpot,” Illinois Lottery officials said in an email.
Lottery officials had indicated that the ticket was sold at a gas station located on Main Street in the small town of Red Bud in Southern Illinois. The officials announced on Monday that the winner will come forward and collect their check at a news conference scheduled for Wednesday morning.
“Respecting the privacy of the winner, we cannot release their name or personal information until then,” lottery officials said.
Either way the mayor of Red Bud, with only about 3,700 residents, was looking forward to the publicity. “We’ll finally get to see who this person is,” Red Bud Mayor Tim Lowry said. “At least the name will be out there, and Red Bud still gets notice in the history books that the winner came from here. It is exciting.”
If the person chooses to do so. he or she can take a one lump sum payment of $158 million before taxes or 26 yearly annuity payments totaling $218.6 million before taxes.
