Largest grocery chains 2010. Surprisingly, Publix is one of the largest chains in the 2010 grocery industry, Wal-Mart and Kroger are the top 2. Some grocery chains have downsized because of the downward economy, but most of the largest ones are growing in 2010.

Grocery stores in the United States is a very competitive business. Some of the retail chains have stores in 14 countries worldwide. There is also a difference between a store and an actual supermarket. For example, Wal-Mart and Costco is considered a supermarket.

Chains are slowly growing, in comparison to the 1990s. Most companies have merged to gain greater markets. Publix has been buying new stores, with cash, since the late 1980s. They have been growing ever since.

2010 retail chains are still recovering from the economic recession. Winn-Dixie Stores had to download in 2007, and many of their grocery stores have closed. Listed below are the largest retail chains ranked by the Global Powers of Retailing.
