New Girl Scout Cookie

New Girl Scout Cookie – The Girl Scouts Of America will be introducing a new cookie later this month when the annual tasty treats go on sale.

The organization started in 1912 and the new product is meant to commemorate the centennial anniversary and name will be Savannah Smiles, which is named after the founding home of Savannah were Juliette Gordon Low started the organization.

The new cookie will be a lemon flavored wedged cookie with a dusting of powdered sugar. The scouts website described it as, “This lemon wedge cookie is cool and crisp, with just the right number of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of flavor. And, when you hold it right, you’ll quickly be reminded of that world-famous ‘Brownie Smile.’”

The Girl Scouts Organization says of the proceeds collected from the sale of cookies, “approximately 70% of the proceeds stays in the local Girl Scout council to provide a portion of the resources needed to support Girl Scouting in that area, including the portion that goes directly to the group selling the cookies. The balance goes directly to the baker to pay for the cookies.”

The sale of the cookies unofficially started in 1917. In 2007 it was estimated that nationally cookie sales amounts to 200 million boxes annually.
