The Carl’s Jr. restaurant chain is serving up Pop Tar ice cream sandwiches with frosted strawberries for breakfast. It’s a very unusual fast-food item, but the pop-start snack is inviting.
“The idea of it just seemed to capture people’s imaginations,” Brad Haley, chief marketing officer of Carl’s Jr., explains. “It’s one of those things that just brings a smile to everyone’s face when they hear about it, if not a downright swoon in some cases.”
The fast-food chain began testing the sandwiches in Orange County in April, and news of the sandwich went viral. It even led late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to ask, “Is Carl’s Jr. reading my dream journal?”
The sandwiches will be made by hand in-house with a scoop of what Carl’s Jr. calls “premium” vanilla ice cream and two halves of a frosted strawberry Pop-Tart.
The sandwiches are priced at $1.49.
If you want to try one for free, Carl’s Jr. is giving away one free Pop-Tart ice cream sandwich with the purchase of a super bacon cheeseburger combo for a limited time at participating locations.
