Comcast high speed Internet will increase to 50 Mbps in most markets in the northeast.

Comcast Corp on Wednesday announced that its high speed Internet access will jump to 50 Mbps. Comcast high speed access will expand to 10 million homes in the northeast United States. The new high speed technology is called Docsis 3.0 which has been tested in the Minnesota area.

Comcast Corp on Wednesday announced plans to offer its high speed Internet services to 10 million homes in the northeast. The Docsis 3.0 technology is currently being offered in parts of Boston, New Hampshire, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Minnesota.

The new high speed access will deliver 50 Mbps downstream speed and an upstream speed of 10 Mbps. Most high speed customers get speeds of 6 to 8 Mbps.

Comcast high speed access for the northeast offers new speeds designed to give customers fast access to videos, online video games and large software programs. Most high speed customers get speeds of 6 to 8 Mbps.

The high speed Internet service provider plans to reach more than 10 large markets which will be available to 10 million homes and businesses during the next few months. Comcast wants to make them available to all 50 million homes that it covers by the end of 2010.

The new 50 Mbps Internet service will cost $139.95 a month. The 50 Mbps speed is designed to match that of phone companies such as Verizon Communications.
