The 83-year-old millionaire economist made his money in the music industry, but he was most well-known for playing high-stakes poker on Season 5.
The chauffeur and the doorman, not only worked for Meltzer, they were his friends, and provided him with support during his divorce from his wife of 13 years.
Jean Laborde, his previous chauffeur, is a 54-year-old father of 5 from Irvington, New Jersey. Chamil Demiraj was Melzer’s former Upper East Side doorman for 15 years, and he received $500,000 from $10 million estate.
Alan’s ex-wife Diana seemed to be a bit angry about her ex-husband’s decision to leave his money to his friends. However, the money was his, and he could do whatever he wanted to do with it.
It was in 1985 that Meltzer began making a lot of money; he created CD One Stop, which was the first CD distributor ever. He began this business out of his home, and it grew to be very profitable. Then in 1997, he founded the record label “Wind-Up Records,” which is home to artists like Evanescence, Creed, People in Planes, Seether, and Finger Eleven.
When he was not working, Alan enjoyed getting into high-stakes poker games, he would even set himself up in Vegas, which attracted pros like David “Viffer,” Sammy Farha, and David Williams.
