Amber Portwood Chooses Rehab Instead Of Prison

Amber Portwood has chosen to go to rehab, which will avoid prison time for the MTV “Teen Mom” star, after entering a plea deal for the time being.

Previously, Amber Portwood had entered a guilty plea to charges of a class D felony on a drug possession and violating her probation back in December of 2011. On Monday though after the plea was changed an Indiana judge agreed to the terms of rehab instead of the 5 years maximum in prison she could have received. She will have to complete the program or she will be sent back to prison

However, the reality star will have to remain in custody until a Drug Court team conducts an evaluation and a spot in a rehab facility open up for her, which could take a couple of weeks.

Amber, who had been known as a party girl before becoming pregnant and dropping out of high school, has been previously arrested for domestic violence against her on again off again fiancé Gary, who is also the father of Amber’s daughter Leah.

Before appearing on MTV’s “Teen Mom,” she appeared on the networks “16 & Pregnant” series. She was working towards getting her GED, having dreams of opening her own beauty saloon, while Gary works 12 hours a day to support both Amber and Leah.
