An anti-Beyonce rally is scheduled outside the NFL headquarters in New York. Beyonce and her backup dancers channeled the Black Panthers to bring attention to the Black Lives Matter movement at Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 halftime show when they performed the just-released “Formation,” and some people aren’t happy about it, according to New York Daily News.

“Are you offended as an American that Beyonce pulled her race-baiting stunt at the [Super Bowl]? Do you agree that it was a slap in the fact to law enforcement?” an Eventbrite page for the anti-Beyonce protest asks. “Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified? … Let’s tell the NFL we don’t want hate speech & racism at the [Super Bowl] ever again!” The rally has gained a lot of support.

These protesters will have company, though: In response to the call to the arms, another Eventbrite page advertising another protest popped up. “We have asked our biggest stars to get political and Bey went there,” the page reads. “Don’t let anyone make her powerful statement about the value of Black life be overshadowed by those who don’t believe that our lives matter.”

In addition to the anti-Beyonce rally, conservative pundits have also been vocal about their disapproval of the star’s halftime show. Former New York mayor and current Fox News contributor Rudy Giuliani said halftime performers should provide “wholesome entertainment” while Fox Business host Stuart Varney asked, “Why is race brought in at the halftime show of the Super Bowl?”

Comedian Jessica Williams responded to those complaints in a segment on The Daily Show Monday evening when she sarcastically apologized that “this wasn’t wholesome enough for you.” “I didn’t realize that singing about race was equivalent to Janet Jackson getting her titty pulled out at the Super Bowl,” she said of Beyonce’s performance.

“But you’re right. You know what? The fans deserve wholesome entertainment: like watching 300-pound men give each other concussions while a crowd cheers like extras in the movie Gladiator,” she went on. “So what is wrong with Beyoncé, everyone? Were you not entertained?”

Super Bowl 50

The Super Bowl attracts a huge audience, and the halftime show is one of its highlights. Last year’s Super Bowl averaged 114.2 million viewers in the US. Beyonce is yet to comment publicly on the halftime show.

The anti-Beyonce rally is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Feb. 16. It’s also the day tickets go on sale for Beyonce’s Formation tour.
