Betty White will be this year’s annual roast, according to the Friars club. The 90-year-old actress and comedian is set to be in the “hot seat,” but will some people go easy on her?
Though typically, a risqué bashing session for those and Betty White in the “hot seat,” it is an honor to be roasted by the Friars Club for career achievements in entertainment.
Established in 1904 as a place for entertainers to hang out, The Friars Club is located in New York City and is an exclusive private club where other members who have been honored by being roasted include, Johnny Carson, Lucile Ball, and Billy Crystal. Last years actor and director, Quentin Tarantino, was roasted with Samuel L. Jackson serving as the Roastmaster.
“Betty White is one of those unique talents that comes along once every generation,” said Freddie Roman, dean of The Friars Club. “She has been making people laugh all her life, and our Roasters will need to be on their toes to handle Betty’s razor sharp wit.”
Upon hearing about the honor White agreed with Roman’s advice to the would-be roaster’s.
“Those Friars may think I’m an easy mark, but I have 90 years of comebacks waiting for them,” White said. “This is such an honor to be roasted by the Friars Club. It will be an afternoon filled with dirty words, risque jokes and sex talk…..and that’s just what I plan on saying!”
The roast will take place on May 16th.
