Justin Bieber will not be charged with criminal battery for an altercation that took place last May with a photographer in Calabasas, Ca.
While the Canadian singer-songwriter was at The Commons mall with girlfriend Selena Gomez a paparazzo kept attempting to photograph them.
According to authorities, it ended in a physical altercation between Bierber, and the camera guy. The celebrity photographer called 911; however, Bieber and Gomez left before police arrived to investigate. He was taken to West Hills Hospital and Medical Center, where doctors determined he had “only superficial injuries.”
Police passed the case onto prosecutors to examine the evidence against Bieber, according to the Associated Press.
On Wednesday, prosecutors cited insufficient evidence, and stated that they would not be pursuing criminal charges for this altercation.
“There is no additional corroborative evidence for victim’s statement, but there is contradictory evidence,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mara Mcilvain. “There is insufficient evidence for proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The victim continued to take pictures as Bieber and Gomez got into a van. Bieber then got out of the vehicle and ran at the photographer before, the photographer alleged, kicking him in the lower abdomen, “leading the suspect to lose his balance,” prosecutors said.
