Brett Favre is still unsure about his NFL return as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. The team itself has remained very quiet during the off-season. He told Jay Leno that he hasn’t made a decision yet.
“Well Jay, it’s only been a month, and I know now that I’m just not going to say anything anytime soon, just going to kind of sit back, relax, enjoy the offseason,” Favre said. It was his first public announcement since the last game at New Orleans that left him with one bitter win away from the Super Bowl.
Favre came out of retirement last season to play for the Minnesota Vikings. The team was his direct rivals for his entire career when he played for the Green Bay Packers. The season left him with the lowest interception ratings of his career and the Vikings got one of their best seasons ever.
“Obviously had we gone to the Super Bowl that would have been the icing on the cake, but it was way better than even I could have dreamed of,” he said. “I’ve told people I really believe my biggest accomplishment this year was winning over the majority of the Vikings’ fans. For so many years I was hated.”
Favre led the Minnesota Vikings to one of the best records in the NFL. He told Leno that the loss to the Saints still upsets him. He’s been out of retirement since 2008 and has shown the NFL that he can compete.
NFL Quarterback Early Years
Brett Favre was the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers between 1992 and 2007 and for the New York Jets in 2008. In 2009, he was the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, giving the team one of their best NFL records of all-time.
Favre started at the quarterback position for the University of Southern Mississippi for four years. He was selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He was traded to the Green Bay Packers after lasting one season with the Falcons.
He is widely considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He is the only player to win the AP Most Valuable Player three consecutive times from 1995-1997. Brett Favre led the Packers to seven division championships, four NFC Championship Games, and two NFL Super Bowl appearances.
