Louis Gossett Jr News: Louis Gossett Jr Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

This is really sad to report about Louis Gosset Jr. The actor has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is best known for his Oscar-winning role as the tough drill instructor in “An Officer and a Gentleman.”

“I count this diagnosis among the many challenges I have faced in my life and overcome. I expect this to be no different,” Gossett said in a statement.

Gossett, 73, also said that his cancer was in its early stages. He made the decision to go public to encourage African-Americans to seek early examinations and treatment for the disease. Gosset has already started an intensive treatment program.

His role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the 1982 film “An Officer and a Gentleman” showcased his talent and won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1986, he starred in another role as a military man in the film Iron Eagle. It was followed by three sequels.

Cancer Treatment

The current treatment for the cancer will also help him resume his schedule. He still maintains a strong acting schedule and works with his Eracism Foundation. The actor’s charity works to raise awareness of issues such as racism, ignorance and social apathy.

Honored Guest and Keynote Speaker Benefiting Boys & Girls Club

The actor has been involved with several charity events. In 2007, Gossett was the honored guest and keynote speaker a gala benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs in St. Petersburg, Florida. He has appeared every year supporting the organization.
