Chely Wright has given birth to twins. The country star and her wife Lauren Blitzer proudly welcomed George Samuel and Everett Joseph – named after their great-grandfathers – in New York City.
“We are grateful for all the amazing medical care and the love and support of family and friends,” the 42-year-old gushed in a statement to People magazine.
The babies arrived earlier than expected – they weren’t due until this summer.Wright and her music executive wife announced their pregnancy news in January, just a year after she received death threats for coming out of the closet.
The two revealed the sex of their twins in March, after Wright was artificially inseminated.
“We’re having two little boys. They’re healthy babies … Everything looks good,” she said.
“When gay couples have babies it’s logistically a little different than when straight people have babies as we all know,” the blonde singer said. “We feel our entire relationship has been blessed. We feel lucky and ready to take on the challenges. We’re excited to be parents and we hope we don’t mess it up too badly.”
Chely married her girlfriend Lauren in Connecticut in August 2011, just 15 months after coming out.
Over 200 people attended the ceremony, and news of the ceremony spread rapidly on twitter after Lauren, a gay rights activist, posted a picture of the brides writing “The Blitzer-wrights!!!”
