Deana Carter has filed court papers at the court house in Los Angeles this week that indicate she’s been living away from Brandon Malone for more than a year.
Carter, 46, cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation. She is seeking to get spousal support and have her attorney fees paid.
The “How Do I Get There” singer married Malone in Malibu on October 3, 2009. This was her first marriage, although she has an 8-year-old son, Gray Hayes, from a previous relationship with music-video director Chris Hicky.
In 1996, Carter’s her debut album “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” was 5x Multi-Platinum in the U.S., with record sales above five million. Later, she released “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”, “I’m Just a Girl”, “The Story of My Life”, and “The Chain.”
After that she took some time off from recording to spend time at home with her son.
“How Do I Get There”, “We Danced Anyway”, and “Strawberry Wine”, have all ranked well on the Billboard country charts. This year at the Grammy Awards, her song “You and Tequila” was nominated for the Best Country Song.
