Demi Lovato Sober – After a rough 2011, Demi Lovato is ready to kick off 2012 with a new outlook on life, and a new definition of “sexy,” and most people already see the cooler side of her being sober.
“I think sober is sexy. It’s cool,” the Disney songstress tells the February issue of Seventeen. “I think it’s way cooler to be above the influence than under the influence.”
In the issue, Lovato, 19, speaks candidly about last year’s downward spiral, which ended with her checking into rehab.
“I’m not gonna lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain,” she says of her troubles.
But throughout her healing process, Lovato says she found two huge pillars of support in her fellow tween queens Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.
“No matter how many times we fight, we will always be in each other’s lives,” she says. “[Miley Cyrus and I] are very strong-headed, so when we fight, it’s brutal and we’re like, ‘We’re never going to be friends again!’ Then two days later, we’re like, ‘I love you and I miss you!’
“Selena and I, we never fight. She’s not a confrontational person at all. Both of them will never leave my life no matter what happens, because we’ve been through so much together.”
Lovato entered rehab last fall after getting into a physical fight with one of the dancers on her tour.
She says she knew it was a bad situation that had hit rock bottom after the incident.
“I basically had a nervous breakdown,” she told Seventeen in a previous issue. “I was really bad off. My parents and manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention.”
Now, however, the “Skyscraper” singer is looking forward to cleaning up her lifestyle.
“I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs, I don’t throw up after my meals, I don’t starve myself. There’s nothing that I do that I feel ashamed of.”
