Ellen DeGeneres is appearing in a new Christmas commercial for JCPenny and it’s becoming so offensive for the One Million Moms and the American Family Association for a second time this year.
Originally, earlier in the year 1 Million Moms was upset that JCPenny had announced DeGeneres, a known lesbian, as their new spokesperson. At the time, the organization called for a boycott of the store over the new hire.
Once again, the conservative group is asking for a boycott of JCPenny via your wallet, after somehow they claim the whimsical Christmas commercial, which DeGeneres appears with a few of Santa’s elves, has offended their customers.
In the commercial DeGeneres sits in a diner with three elves and asks them to make several more extra toys this year for a contest giveaway, while making some comically unattended comments about the elves.
1 Million Moms posted a statement on Boston.com about the commercial that read, “Since April, JC Penney’s has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now. A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets. We have contacted JC Penney’s several times in the past with our concerns, and they will not listen. They have decided to ignore our complaints so we will avoid them at all costs.”
One Million Moms
Like many, some responders wondered why is 1 Milion Moms angry over the commercial. “THIS IS SO OFFENSIVE – Said nobody with a brain ever,” one viewer wrote, according to NBC.
“There is nothing wrong with this. ‘one million moms’… needs to relax, worry about raising their kids and not spending time and energy on hating a ’30 second’ holiday clip of elves and Ellen at a diner. Really?” wrote another.
DeGeneres has yet to comment on the current issue One Million Moms has with her but back in March she said of the organization, “Not that there’s anyone counting, but for a group that calls itself the One Million Moms, they only have 40,000 members on their [Facebook] page,” DeGeneres told viewers in March.
“They’re rounding to the nearest million, and I get that,” she joked.
