Sir Elton John is showing his support for the International Day of Peace, also known as the World Peace Day by performing for the cause.
This day is dedicated to peace, and more specifically the absence of war in combat zones. It is regarded by several nations, military groups, political groups, and peoples.
The English rock singer-songwriter is headlining at Wembley Arena for the Peace One Day non-profit organization which is endorsing the Global Truce 2012 campaign. They would like to “create the largest global reduction of violence ever recorded on one day.” This huge event, co-produced by actor Jude Law, will take place on September 21.
Founded in 1999, Peace One Day was developed by English actor and filmmaker Jeremy Gilley. It was adopted by the UN in 2001 and has led to a reduction in violence in countries such as Afghanistan.
“When Jeremy and Jude came to see me and told me about Peace One Day and the Global Truce 2012 campaign, I had to get involved and support them,” Elton John stated.
The concert will succeed a similar show with English singer-songwriter Pixie Lott, 21, and Imelda May, 37, in Londonderry on June 21 to begin the London 2012 Festival.
