Emma Stone’s wardrobe malfunction revealed a little more than she wanted while walking the red carpet at the 87th Annual Academy Awards. The actress, who was nominated for her work on Birdman, accidentally flashed her undergarment while lifting up the train of her Elie Saab gown, according to Hollywood Life. One photographer actually felt sorry for her.
“The cameras went crazy and I actually felt bad for her. But the incident was over before we knew it. It had to be an embarrassing moment for her.”
Emma Stone didn’t appear to notice that the thigh-grazing slit was giving the photographers and fans an eyeful, and continued to walk the carpet unfazed.
And while the 26-year-old didn’t win for her category, her film did take home a ton of awards including Best Director and the highest honor of the night, Best Picture. It’s a movie that had mixed reviews, but it won an award in the end.
The film stars Michael Keaton with a large supporting cast. The story follows protagonist Riggan Thomson as he struggles to create a Broadway adaptation of a short story by Raymond Carver. Thomson is a faded Hollywood actor famous for his role as superhero Birdman.
Birdman appears to be filmed in a single shot, an idea the director had since the film’s conception. This required an atypical production approach, with many elements of post-production needing to be considered before principal photography. As a result the script took two years to write, the cast went through several weeks of meticulous rehearsals, and that meant removing every mistake from a slightest mishap to a wardrobe malfunction.
The movie was filmed in New York City during the spring of 2013 with a budget of $16.5 million, jointly financed by New Regency and Fox Searchlight Pictures. The film premiered the following year in August where it opened the 71st Venice International Film Festival. But again, it had mixed reviews as it confused both audiences and critics.
While Emma Stone’s wardrobe malfunction before the cameras, the flick’s director Alejandro G. Iñárritu said he was wearing Michael Keaton’s underwear during one of his acceptance speeches. This certainly took everybody by surprise, and there were strange looks after he told the photographers about the undergarment, according to The Spreadit. But you never know when Alejandro is joking.
“Tonight, I am wearing the real Michael Keaton tighty-whities … They are tight, smell like balls, but it worked. I’m here. Thank you, Michael.”
Alejandro was questioned backstage whether or not he was joking about his choice of undergarments, the 51-year-old director confirmed that he really, truly was wearing the best actor nominee’s undies.
“I wish I was in a more intimate setting to prove it!”
But then there’s the Emma Stone’s wardrobe malfunction that people quickly forgot about, notes The Inquisitr. That’s fine though, because the Oscars appeared to be a lot of fun, and it was very entertaining to watch Stone during the speech. As for Birdman, people either loved or hated the film.
