While participating in a charity soccer match called Soccer Aid, both celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey and comedian actor Will Ferrell had to be replaced in the game after suffering injuries.
In a match up on Sunday in Manchester, England, that featured a team of celebrities and former soccer players from around the world versus an English team of celebrities and soccer players, England won the match versus the Rest of the World 3-1.
Ramsay was placed on a stretcher as he was removed from the field and taken to the hospital after injuring his back during the match, when former English soccer player, Teddy Sheringham ran into him from behind. A Ramsay spokesman said a day later he was in pain still, after he was released from the hospital a few hours after being admitted and getting some treatment.
Ferrell meanwhile limped off the field late in the match and never returned after being subbed for. The severity of his injury was not known but was suspected to not be very serious.
The biennial celebrity soccer match was organized by English singer Robbie Williams of ‘Take That,’ and media personality Jonathan Wilkes, in order to raise money for UNICEF UK.
Other celebrities that participated included, Mike Myers, Gerard Butler, Edward Norton, Woody Harrelson and Michael Sheen. The event was said to have raised $6.4 million.
