Glee actress Heather Morris is sporting a black eye from a recent photo shoot, and critics are alleging that they are nothing more than violence against women images.
Morris was photographed by Tyler Shields flying from a street sign, dancing, tied up with the electrical cord of an iron and sporting a brutal black eye.
“In no way were we promoting domestic violence,” Shields said in a statement. “We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot, and that’s exactly what we did!”
The photos opened a debate with the photographer’s fans who argued over whether the shoot was offensive or whether art has a free creative license.
“I don’t know if Tyler is aware but I’m quite sure there are plenty of women who have been abused by these kinds of household appliances and children as well being hit with electrical cords,” Rita Smith, executive director for the Denver-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, said of the photos revealing Heather’s black eye. “I’m not sure what the purpose is other than shock value.”
Heather also competed on season two of “So You Think You Can Dance.” Morris has yet to respond to the controversy. The “Glee” series returns to FOX on Tuesday, September 20.
