Holly Holm was lucky enough to meet Jay Z and other A-list celebrities since her victory against Ronda Rousey at UFC 193. Holm traveled to Las Vegas on Saturday, where she watched Canelo Alvarez beat Miguel Cotto in their middleweight boxing match, according to Bleacher Report.
While there, her newly found fame gained her entrance into the VIP viewing party, where rapper Jay Z and his wife — what’s her name? — were also in attendance.
“I met Jay Z and he says this is my wife and I say, ‘Oh, hi what is your name?’ That is what I do when I meet someone’s wife,” the 34-year-old fighter said. “As I am shaking her hand I am thinking ‘why did I just say that?’ ”
Probably because everyone knows Jay Z is married to Beyonce. You know, the superstar singer who doesn’t even require a last name. Holm, of course, knew this, which is why she quickly scolded herself for asking.
Holly Holm and Jay Z stood there shocked, because Holly realized what she did wrong. Luckily, Beyonce reportedly found Holm’s gaffe refreshing and told her not to worry about it.
Holm has been everywhere since she upset Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 earlier this month. From taking piano lessons with Jamie Foxx to hanging out with Floyd Mayweather at the Clippers-Warriors game last week,Holly has had to make her way in a brand new world full of glitz, glamour and television appearances.
What she hasn’t done, however, is change her personality. She also hasn’t even let her win go to her head. While she admitted punching Rousey in the face was “satisfying,” but remains a friendly person — she even stuck up for her rival who has faced immense criticism after being defeated.
Holm, who lives in Albuquerque with her husband and a couple of cats and a dog, wants to stay grounded, though everything around her has lifted off. Life is good when you’re Holly The Champ.
It’s even better when you’re the champ coming off one of the most shocking victories in the history of your sport, but somehow you embarrass yourself. The last week has been a blur for Holly Holm, and Jay Z thought the whole incident was funny.
