Jada Pinkett says that she’s happily married to Will Smith and doesn’t quite understand why her marriage isn’t spared from public scrutiny. The rumors started last year when it was reported that the couple had separated after 15 years, but they quickly denied the reports.
Now, in a new interview with French magazine Gala (excerpted by People), Jada says she has “no idea” why the speculation about her marriage won’t go away. “Will and I know the truth,” the actress says. “We’re waiting peacefully for the storm to blow over.”
“Every year, one celebrity couple is under the microscope,” she reasons. “This year, unluckily, it’s us! I almost want to say that we should have been expecting it.”
Jada, 40, says that she and her husband do spend a lot of time apart when they’re working on individual projects, but rumors that they no longer live in the same house are “ridiculous” and they’ve “always lived together.”
Fortunately, Willow and Jaden haven’t let the speculation about their parents’ marriage get them down. Both kids have already accomplished a lot in their own entertainment careers, but their superstar parents are careful not to pressure them.
“As a mom, I’m very proud to see them pursuing the things they love,” Jada says. “We leave them enough space to express themselves and make their dreams come true. We leave them free to make their own choices. We try not to live through them.”
