TV, film and stage actress Janet Carroll, who once played the mother of a Tom Cruise character in an 80’s movie, has passed away at the age of 71.
Aside from playing Cruise’s mother in “Risky Business” she had TV roles as the shoe store owner in “Married with Children,” which Al Bundy worked in, and she played the wife of anchorman Jim Dial on “Murphy Brown.”
Aside having reoccurring parts on the Ed Asner production “The Bronx Zoo” and “The Bonnie Hunt show”, she also had parts on TV shows such as, Brothers and Sisters, Mary, Designing Women, Matlock, Third Rock From the Sun, Law and Order: SVU and Scrubs.
She had roles in several movies from the late 80s through the 90s, and one of her last movies was a role in the yet to be released film called “College Debts.”
She also acted on stage in shows starring actors such as Lynn Redgrave, John Lithgow, Cloris Leachman, Sutton Foster, and Maureen McGovern.
Carroll had passed in on Tuesday in New York after a long battle with an unknown illness. She had been a o-founder of the Victory Ball in Westport, Conn., which annually benefits ALS.
She is survived a son and his wife. A memorial is planned in New York on Saturday.
