The parent of Jessica Simpson, Tina and Joe, have decided to file for divorce after 34 years of marriage. A representative said the couple’s marriage was amicable and beyond reconciliation. She also disputed the allegation by the National Enquirer that a family insider told them the reason for the divorce was due to Joe becoming gay.
“It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved,” the Simpson family rep told People. “Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time.”
Speculation over the divorce may stem from an August arrest of the 54-year-old Joe Simpson for a DUI, in which a judge ordered him to stay away from alcohol.
“The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities … that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” said court documents obtained by TMZ.
Joe, a former minister and physiologist and Tina married on August 19th 1978, and have one other daughter, aside from Jessica, Ashlee. They also have two grandchildren, one from each daughter. The former couple played major roles in the musical careers of their daughters, with Joe acting as Jessica’s manager for sometime.
Due to their involvement in their daughter’s careers, the couple has been able to obtain several assets over the years. In the divorce papers, a request was made that Tina and Joe divide up their estate and keep Tina’s separate properties out of the agreement.
