Jimmy Fallon almost ripped his finger off after catching himself from a fall using his ring. The injury was bad enough for hospitalization and he was forced to cancel The Tonight Show, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Fallon, 40, took to Twitter one-handed on Friday night to explain to fans how he ended up in the hospital needing emergency surgery. Jimmy also allowed his rep to confirm he had undergone a minor operation.
“Tripped and caught my fall (good thing)! Ring caught on side of table almost ripped my finger off (bad thing),” he wrote.
Fallon amusingly went on to note, “#drugged #blessed.” Jimmy further said, “I’m doing well and thanks for good wishes everyone.” The comedian also shared a picture of his bandaged hand, in addition to a foam brace around his wrist.Jimmy Fallon nearly ripped finger off after catching himself from a fall
Fortunately before The Tonight Show was cancelled, he was already set to begin a two-week hiatus on Monday, timed to the July 4th holiday. The break will allow the star plenty of time for his ripped finger to recover enough before production starts back up.
Earlier in the day, NBC announced on Twitter that Friday’s taping was supposed to feature Benicio del Toro, Taylor Kitsch, and Penn & Teller as guests. The studio planned to air a repeat in order to give the host time to recover.
Jimmy Fallon was spotted out and about in Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Thursday night before he nearly ripped his finger off. He snapped a few photographs with fans dining at a restaurant called Scalinatella.
