Upon completing her seventh and last ‘Harry Potter’ book in 2006, JK Rowling indicated it would be ‘unlikely’ she would write an eighth ‘Potter’ book anytime soon anyway, however she is giving fans some more reading material to keep them satisfied for a bit.
JK Rowling did indicate a possible encyclopedia on the wizarding world in the future after completing the last book. In 2007 at a news conference she was asked how the encyclopedia was coming along. She responded by saying it wasn’t.
“It’s not coming along, and I haven’t started writing it. I never said it was the next thing I’d do,” Rowling said.
Now this past April 13th Rowlings did indeed confirm on her website that she has finally started that encyclopedia. Even still it may be awhile before it hits book shelves as she once also indicated that it could take up to 10 years to put an encyclopedia together once she starts it, indicating that she didn’t want to rush it, to insure it was something amazing.
The encyclopedia is excepted to also include various unpublished material and notes and its eventual proceeds will go to charity.
Rowling’s has also been working on a her first post ‘Potter’ novel geared more towards adults that is expected to be published sometime in 2012.
As far as continuing the ‘Potter’ series Rowling’s did indicate that it is unlikely, but has refused to say it would ‘never’ happen, leaving the door open to the possibility. “I can’t say I’ll never write another book about that world just because I think, what do I know, in ten years’ time I might want to return to it but I think it’s unlikely,” she once said.
