John Mayer Tour Cancelled - Singer John Mayer was forced to announce that he is canceling his approaching 21-city tour due to a throat problem he had surgery for last year.

The songwriter’s upcoming tour was to coincide with the release of his fifth album, “Born and Raised.” Last September he had to cancel performances after developing a granuloma in his throat and had to have surgery to correct it.

Mayer wrote on Tumblr, “During rehearsal on Tuesday, it came to mind that I should see my throat doctor because something didn’t feel/sound right.”

An apparently upset Mayer went on to explain how a visit to the doctor last Wednesday, showed that the granuloma had grown back on his vocal cords, and that he would have to take an indefinite break from singing.

“Somewhere in all of this is another surgery and a very long chemically-imposed period of silence,” he continued. “So I hope you’ll understand that I have to really pick that date (to resume performing) carefully.”

He went on to say that he would utilize the down time to start writing songs for his next album. He also went on to explain the throat issue he suffers from.

“I want to explain this a bit more in depth than I have in the past, because I know there’s some confusion as to what this condition is,” Mayer wrote at Tumblr.

“A granuloma forms and continues to snowball because it’s in a spot where the vocal cords hit together and there’s no way to really give it a chance to heal without a good stretch of time and some pretty intensive treatment. In short, it’s one giant pain in the ass.”

“Born and Raised” is due out on May 22nd.
