The silence of Justin Bieber finally breaks after his DUI arrest on Jan. 23 in Miami, Florida. Bieber wants his fans to know that he’s holding strong, after sending his first tweet since being arrested early Thursday morning.

Here’s the tweet Bieber sent earlier tonight:

He also retweeted an example of the support he’s been getting from fans.

“YOU saved my life and everyday i am grateful to YOU. Never change for anyone. You are an amazing kind soul @justinbieber,” wrote @BelieberSince11.

The 19-year-old pop star was arrested on suspicion of DUI after cops pulled him over for speeding while behind the wheel of a rented Lamborghini, with authorities saying that Bieber was drag racing with buddy Khalil Sharief at the time. According to the Miami Beach Police Department, Bieber admitted to the arresting officer to having a beer and smoking marijuana earlier in the night, as well as to using prescription antidepressants.

He briefly cooled his heels in a holding cell at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, appeared at his bond hearing via closed-circuit TV and then was released after posting $2,500 bail. The Lamborghini escaped unscathed and was returned to the rental company sometime after Bieber’s arrest.

Dad Jeremy Bieber, who was spotted on the beach with Justin on Wednesday, also took to Twitter today to defend his son, writing, “I can protect my kids, but I can’t protect them from you and your lies. Believe in the truth not in the lies of the enemy. #reallife.”

“If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” added Bieber’s stepmom, Erin Wagner.
