Kanye West is allegedly in talks with “American Idol” and has made an $18 million demand to even consider a spot on American Idol as a judge, but he is expressing a big interest in the talent show.
West, Kim Kardashian’s latest beau, is reportedly trying to decide on whether to sign up with the Fox reality singing competition. The deal, however, would be that his salary would “at least match Mariah’s salary,” which is $18 million a year. That could be a snag in the deal.
West, 35, would be joining show judge Mariah Carey, 42, if the rumors are to be believed – a fact that could potentially please the singer, who is reportedly unhappy that fellow diva Nicki Minaj might be joining the judge’s table.
Carey was so irked by reports that Minaj, 29, is set to be a judge on the show that she hung up with producers during a phone call. A spokeswoman for the singer denies that Carey did any such thing. “This is not true. Mariah is too much of a lady to ever do such a thing,” the spokesman said.
Other names as potential candidates for the judging gig include Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley and Pink.
Two seats were left vacant on the “American Idol” judging panel when Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their back-to-back “Idol” departures in July. Reports also surfaced that Randy Jackson — the only original “American Idol” judge still standing — will be moving on to a mentor role on the show.
Besides the salary requirements, there are still some major hurdles in the negotiations as West is “on the fence” because he is not certain that judging the show is his “wheelhouse.”
