Karate Kid actor Ralph Macchio, who played the father in the film, has proposed a $1.5 million zip line project that will take tourists on a ride from the top of a mountain to his ranch.
The project includes an incredible launch platform and tower near French Mountain, which the Karate Kid actor owns, stretching 3,500 feet.
However, several trees would have to be cleared along the route to make it safe for riders, which includes a 700 foot vertical drop to his ranch.
The zip line idea is massive, but any project of this kind doesn’t come without criticism.
Landowners in the area are concerned about visual and noise impacts that the tourist line may bring. State and local agencies are reviewing the project. Macchio is hoping to have the zip attraction ready to open by this summer.
“It’s been working through the approval process for a number of months,” said Glens Falls attorney Jonathan Lapper, who’s representing Macchio. “It’s pretty exciting,” Lapper added. “It would support the existing hotels and motels to just have another tourist attraction in Lake George.”
Macchio owns the Wild West Ranch in Lake George, New York.
Zip lines have been growing in popularity, particularly in resort areas, across the United States in the last few years.
In fact, the number of the high-speed elevated cable rides constructed has soared from 10 to more than 200 in the past 10 years.
