Karl Lagerfeld, a German fashion designer, says singer-songwriter Adele is too fat for fashion, but he says she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.

That was on Monday of last week, but now Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director at Chanel gave an interview to Paris Metro in which he rambled on about several different topics, is apologizing for the fat remarks made about Adele.

“The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice,” he said last week.

Lagerfeld himself was previously overweight, until 2004, when he lost 90 pounds. However, that hasn’t stopped him from knocking people that may be heavy, he had formerly said, “no one wanted to look at plus-sized models on the runway.”

He was also once quoted by Focus magazine as saying, “Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly.”

Adele, 23, has previously gone on the record about her weight by saying to British Vogue, “It’s just never been an issue — at least. I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue.” Adding, “I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out.”

In 2011, Adele was named Billboard’s artist of the year.
