Kimmel To Host White House Dinner

Kimmel To Host White House Dinner – Jimmy Kimmel has been named host of the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The late-night host will be the featured comedian at the 98th annual event on April 28, 2012.

Kimmel’s brand of humor is “sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience,” said WHCA president Caren Bohan, a staffer at Reuters. He joins a long list of entertainers, from Bob Hope to Jon Stewart, to emcee the proceedings.

Kimmel is the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” a late-night talk show that airs on ABC. Prior to that, Kimmel was best known as the co-host of Comedy Central’s The Man Show and Win Ben Stein’s Money. Kimmel is also a television producer, having produced shows such as Crank Yankers, Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, and The Andy Milonakis Show.

In recent years, the event, part celebration of the White House press corps, part presidential roast, has become a celebrity-filled affair, guest lists peppered with A-list stars. Last year SNL star Seth Meyers was the host.

The WHCA was founded in 1914 by journalists in response to an unfounded rumor that a Congressional committee would select which journalists could attend press conferences of President Woodrow Wilson. Among the issues handled by the WHCA are press access to the President and physical conditions in White House press briefing rooms.
