Kirk Douglas 95th Birthday – Kirk Douglas is celebrating his 95th birthday on Friday.

The actor started his acting career in “The Strange Love of Martha Ivers,” and quickly followed those up with other feature films. His most popular films are, Out of the Past (1947), Champion (1949), Ace in the Hole (1951), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Lust for Life (1956), Paths of Glory (1957), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Spartacus (1960), and Lonely Are the Brave (1962).

Douglas married Anne Buydens in 1954. They recently held a recommitment ceremony in 2004 to honor their 50th anniversary. Two of Douglas’s 4 sons are also involved in Hollywood most notably actor Michael Douglass.

He is No.17 on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest male American screen legends of all time. In 1996, he received the Academy Honorary Award “for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.”

Kirk Douglas was born in Amsterdam, New York in 1916. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Gomel, Belarus. His given Russian name is actually Issur Danielovitch.
