Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married for 23 years, but his inner circle is a lot closer than he might have thought because his wife is a cousin. PBS show “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.” reveals that the “Footloose” actor is, in fact, distantly related to his spouse.
On the show, which traces the genealogy of various celebrities and public figures, Gates discovers that the Hollywood pair are actually distant cousins.
Bacon, 53, and Sedgwick, 46, have been married for 23 years and have two children together: Travis, 22, and Sosie, 19.
“Talk about six degrees of separation, right?” show host Gates chuckled, according to The Insider.
The show, which uses DNA searches to find genetic links and uncovered stories, has also looked into the family history of figures such as Condoleezza Rice, Martha Stewart and Robert Downey Jr.
“I want . . . Americans (to) realize how united we are as a people. … There’s so much animosity . . . and one of the things that I want the series to do is to show that, deep down, we are all Americans,” Gates said of the show.
“We’ve been sleeping together from the very beginning of the country.”
This revelation is strange and a bit mystified. Perhaps we are all somehow cousins or perhaps in some way or another?
