Lark Voorhies, most popularly known for her role as Lisa Turtle on Saved by the Bell, is suffering with a mental illness.

Apparently, Voorhies has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a mental illness that can cause mood swings, and according to her mother, Tricia, she is “battling demons,” she said. “I care deeply about my daughter, and I want her to resume her life … it’s frustrating,” Tricia, told People magazine. “She’s trying so hard. She says she’s delayed, but she’s going to get there.”

Voorhies has attempted to receive medical help, but doctors have been less than helpful, they “can’t explain it, can’t treat it. They don’t know about it,” her mother stated.

She believes that her daughter’s mental breakdown began following the conclusion of “Saved by the Bell” and after her divorce from Miguel Coleman.

“It caused a kind of break … The trauma was back,” Tricia explained. Getting Lark on the road to recovery is difficult because she is a Jehovah’s Witness and some treatment is not Biblically based.

However, Voorhies does not suffer with the disorder, and that her “over-loving” mother worries about her. She explained that her mumbling during the interviews was actually praying and was misinterpreted.

“I have a strong spiritual sense,” she says. “You caught me in moments of pray [sic].”

Voorhies is currently married to Andy Prince, and they have one child together.
