A nude photo of Madonna smoking a cigarette goes up for auction and is expected to sell for thousands of dollars. The smoking photograph was taken for the singer’s 1992 book ‘Sex’ – in which Madonna posed for a series of X-rated photographs – and will be sold at Bonhams’ auction house in New York next month. Experts say it should sell for $8,000.
The image was taken by photographer Steven Meisel.
Madonna, 32-years-old at the time, is topless and reclining in bed while lighting a cigarette.
The unusual auction will come as a blow to the 53-year-old pop superstar who was upset when she caught her daughter , 15-year-old Lourdes, showed up on a tabloid puffing on a cigarette.
In an interview on NBC’s “Today” show, the Material Girl admitted that she has not been as tough on her kids as she should be.
“[I] wasn’t very happy,” she told “Rock Center’s” Harry Smith about seeing snapshots of her 15-year-old daughter puffing away on a cigarette, “but honestly, I don’t think I’m as tough as I should be.
As for her controversial book, she defended it as a part other “development” as an artist.
“When I published ‘Sex’, that was a subject that I was interested in exploring. And to me they’re both reflections of who I was and who I am now. It’s a, you know, kind of development of me,” she said.
