Mariah Carey has gained the reputation of being a nightmare to work with on American Idol, stemming from her previous guest appearance as a guest judge, with reports that she was late for shoots and “not very nice at all.”
The 42-year-old singer will be joining the judging panel for Season 12, which so far only consists of longtime judge Randy Jackson following the departure of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.
Carey’s previous guest appearance was reportedly not met favourably, with staff saying that the star was a nightmare to work with, according to TMZ.
A source revealed that Carey lived-up to her dramatic diva status, turning up late for her shoot at the Beverly Hills Hotel and being rude to staff and helpers.
The insider added that, contrastingly, usurped judge Jennifer Lopez was a joy to work with.
Fox made the announcement that Carey will soon join American Idol for season 7.
Lopez was dumped by Fox after she asked for a $2 million raise in salary, which would have taken her pay to $17 million.
Carey, who has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, is allegedly being paid between $12 – $17 million.
In the past, Carey’s husband, record producer Nick Cannon, boasted that American Idol could not afford his famous wife.
“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey, that’s a lot of money — If they gave J-Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!,” he told TMZ.
However, today Carey said it was a pleasure to be part of show this season, “As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” she said. “I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon,” she added.
