Matthew Fox is thinking about entering an alcohol treatment center in an effort to avoid jail time for his May 6 DUI charge. In addition, he must avoid drinking for a year.
On June 1, the 45-year-old actor, pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence of intoxicants. His attorney entered the plea for him in Deschutes County Circuit Court as he was not required to go in front of the Circuit Judge.
“He has to go to an evaluator for alcohol [abuse] and complete any recommended treatment program,” Deputy District Attorney Cliff Lu told PEOPLE.
According to Lu, “If Fox completes the terms of a diversion program within a year, the DUI charge ‘is certain to be dismissed.'”
Matthew Fox was born in Crowheart, Wyoming to Loretta B. a school teacher, and Francis G. Fox a longhorn cattle and horse raiser who in addition grew barley for Coors beer.
Fox has been married for nearly 20-years to Margherita Ronchi who he met in college. They have a son named Byron and a daughter named Kyle together.
