Michael Douglas was spotted carrying a suitcase out of his New York City apartment in Manhattan as he apparently moves out just four days after insisting that Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones are doing fine amid divorce rumors.
The “Wall Street” actor didn’t say where he was going, but the shades he was sporting was the slickest part of his otherwise schlubby ensemble. He was still wearing his wedding ring.
Last week Douglas confirmed he and Zeta-Jones were taking a break.
While Douglas was in Berlin on Monday promoting his latest film, “Behind the Candelabra,” in which he plays the flamboyant ivory tickler Liberace, he insisted the media was making a mountain out of his marital molehill.
“I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis,” the Oscar winner said. “We take a temporary separation, but the press, it gives you stuff to write about.”
Three days later, Jones had her ring on, too, when she was spotted strolling to church in — of all places — Greenwich, Conn.
It was the first time she’d been photographed since their “temporary” split was announced and the strain was evident on her face as she puffed away on a cigarette.
The A-listers’ 13-year marriage appears to straining under the weight of a tough few years during which Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer and his Welsh-born bride was treated for bipolar disorder.
Douglas, 68, has hinted that his cringe-worthy — and widely publicized — comments that blamed oral sex for causing his throat cancer may have sparked the rift between him and the “Chicago” star.
“You get a little cancer surprise. You open your mouth and … I shouldn’t say that. I’ll get in trouble again,” he said while being honored at the GQ awards in London.
Zeta-Jones, 43, has reportedly told friends she would do “everything in my power” to keep their family — which includes their children Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10 — from fracturing.
