Miley Cyrus was swatted a second time on Friday night when police received a 911 call from a female claiming to be calling from her closet and reporting shots fired in her home.
Authorities arrived and quickly determined that the call was not real.
When Cyrus was first swatted in August of last year, the reaction was much more severe.Police received a 911 call about a home invasion and sent a helicopter and officers with high powered weapons drawn, who created a perimeter around the house, only to discover that no one was home. The swatting prank has become increasingly common this year, as virtually every week a new public figure, as well as the tax-funded authorities, become victims of these false 911 calls meant to trick police into believing there is an emergency.
In 2013 alone, celebrities who have been swatted include Magic Johnson, Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton, Ryan Seacrest, Russell Brand, Justin Timberlake and Khloe Kardashian.
Those caught for swatting are arrested and brought up on criminal charges, even felony charges if someone if hurt or killed due to the false emergency call.
Meanwhile, the Hannah Montana star has been back in the studio, recording her fourth studio album.
Her new single We Can’t Stop isn’t due to be released until the beginning of June, but she has been teasing fans with various tweets that she would be debuting the song on a big show.
Evidence suggests that performance will be tonight, at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
