Nick Cannon – The actor is resting at his home in the Los Angeles area after having kidney surgery at a local hospital and plans to be back at work next week.
In a statement Monday, Cannon’s publicist Tracy Nguyen said he’s now “resting and recovering at home” and thanks everyone who was concerned about him. “He plans to return to his live morning radio show broadcast” on Jan. 17, he said.
Cannon, 31, was rushed to the hospital last week where it was determined by physicians that he suffered from mild kidney failure.
According to a hospital spokesperson, Cannon was released from the hospital over the weekend.
Cannon’s wife, Mariah Carey, has been posting from her Twitter account each day to keep fans updated. “Nick is getting better + we love+appreciated all the ongoing kind words,” she wrote earlier in the week.
Prior to the medical problem, Cannon and Carey were on a family vacation in Aspen, Colorado. Once he was stable, doctors transferred him to an undisclosed Los Angeles hospital. He underwent a procedure Friday.
The exact problem of Cannon’s illness has not been disclosed to the public, but doctors listed dehydration, diabetes, infection, trauma and kidney stones as possible causes for acute kidney failure.
Carey and Cannon were married in April 2008. On their third wedding anniversary, the couple welcomed twins, Monroe and Moroccan Scott.
Nick’s father James Cannon has since told US Weekly magazine that the incident only served to make his son and Carey appreciate their relationship more than ever.
“Nick and Mariah have a very strong bond. If anything, this unexpected illness has made them closer than ever and appreciate one another even more,” James explained.
“She would stay in the hospital overnight to support him. Nick and Mariah are really good for one another – they have so much in common and can make the other one laugh. So they managed to cope even though Nick was pretty sick. But he is glad to be home now and his whole family is pleased about that also.”
