Actress Nicole Kidman has earned critical acclaim for the film ‘The Paperboy’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but she will probably be known for the part where she is forced to urinate on Jack James.
Kidman, who portrays low-class Charlotte Bless, plays the part quite well, referred to as the most memorable scene of the entire film.
While some were repulsed by the peeing scene, the director explained what it was like to film it.
“First of all, it was really hard to shoot,” explained Daniels speaking to GQ magazine. “It was the third day. The first scene we shot was the sex scene with John [Cusack and Kidman]. I like to get that right out of the way. The second day was the telepathic sex scene in the prison. And the third day of shooting was the p— scene.”
The director noted his doubts about including the unusual scene, but said that Kidman insisted. Daniels also recounted Efron’s reaction to filming the scene.
“If you could have watched Zac’s face,” said the director. “He’s supposed to be passed out and [while Kidman is urinating] he’s just got this smile on his face. I’m like, ‘Zac, pretend like you’re dead!’ And he’s just got this crazy smile on his face, the whole thing’s crazy.”
Kidman has also spoken up about the uncomfortable scene while at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month.
“I think I had to step into a place to play the character where I didn’t step out of it and look at myself, so it wasn’t hard to shoot,” the actress told reporters.
“The Paperboy” also stars Matthew McConaughey as well as John Cusack.
