Phoebe Strole Appears as Penny Owen on Glee

Phoebe Strole has will return to television in a recurring role as Penny Owen on Glee, a college sophomore who wants to get into nursing school. The Glee character will ultimately become a love interest for Chord Overstreet’s Sam.

This marks the latest Spring Awakening alum to join Glee, following Groff, who recurred as a love interest for Michele’s Rachel and eventual foe to New Directions.

Strole just appeared onstage in The Madrid this year at Manhattan Theatre Club off-Broadway. Her TV credits include Rescue Me, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 30 Rock and Mercy. She has appeared on the big screen in Descent, Hamlet 2 and My One and Only.

The fifth season of Glee is shaping up to be a musical dream come true as Adam Lambert and now Demi Lovato are set to appear and perform together.

The X Factor judge will portray ‘Dani’ described as “a NYC-based struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana’s. She will also interact frequently with Adam Lambert’s incoming character, and the pair will have several musical numbers together.”

The actress will be appearing in at least six episodes, starting with the show’s October 3rd episode which will feature a musical tribute to the Beatles.

The guest role will be the first major acting role for the artist since she appeared in Disney Channel’s ‘Sonny with a Chance.’ Her other acting credits include the Camp Rock films and Prison Break and Grey’s Anatomy

Glee returns Sept. 26 with the first of a two-part Beatles episode followed by the show’s tribute to late star Cory Monteith.

“That episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory’s passing and the drug abuse in particular,” creator Ryan Murphy revealed to E! News.

Special public service announcements featuring the cast will also air around the tribute.

As for Lea Michele, she is still grieving each day, but is strong.

“She is definitely very sad, but has gotten so much better and has really been strong. The whole crew and cast are now a family and Lea is leading us all back to a normal set life. Cory was a cool guy and will be missed.”
