Rosie O’Donnell Defends Hammerhead Shark Photo Controversy

Rosie O’Donnell Shark – Rosie O’Donnell is in hot water over a family photo taken several years ago with a large dead hammerhead shark during a Florida fishing trip.

The comedian and TV personality had employed the services of well known fisherman, Mark ‘The Shark’ Quartiano during the Miami fishing trip with her family. Recently however, Quartiano posted the pic on his website with a caption that read “This Month’s Celebrity Angler.”

Now O’Donnell is getting criticism from environmentalists that are not happy about the photo. Mostly due to the fact that hammerhead sharks are now on the endangered list and a ban was placed this January 1st on catching certain species of hammerheads.

O’Donnell then defended herself and her family on Twitter, albeit stubbornly, saying, “i love the ocean – i am on it daily in miami – chill people – really – my family fishes.”

After that there was a response of, “my family fishes and good friends hunt. The difference is that they don’t go after species at risk. Be more selective.”

O’Donnell re-tweeted, “we were not going after any species in particular – u catch what u catch – and it wasnt endangered til 11 days ago, I have 4 kids and a job in chicago – and I know all about sharks … I don’t make a habit of fishing for them.”
