Russell Crowe Possibly to be in Superman Movie

In a role once made famous by Marlon Brando, Russell Crowe is negotiating to reprise the role of Jor-EI in the new upcoming Superman movie. The movie titled “Man Of Steel” will be an overhaul and much different looking movie than the earlier franchise in the late 70′s and 80′s. Crowe would play the Kryptonian father of Superman in which Brando had only 15 minutes of screen time in the original film series in which leftover footage of Brando was resurrected in Bryan Singer’s version “Superman Returns”.

Christopher Nolan, film director, screenwriter and producer is set to produce the new version. Nolan has successfully revived the Batman series with “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Night”, and currently working on “The Dark Night Rises”. With his style used in those movies he is looking to bring that same edge ness to the Superman franchise.

Though Nolan and director Zack Snyder have been type lipped on the project, the mere fact that Jor-El will be in the movie indicates that Man of Steel will probably feature a Superman origin story. The small-but-pivotal role of Superman’s father might appeal to Crowe, who hasn’t taken a supporting role in anything in over a decade. Given that Jor-El classically appears only in Krypton-set prologues and then as a zombie hologram, it’s a role that could be shot entirely on a greenscreen, several continents away from the production.

“Man of Steel” stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, and another big name star, Kevin Costner as his human father, Jonathan Kent. The movie is heading for a late summer or fall start in Vancouver. Crowe last starred in “The Next Three Days,” which earned just $21 million at the North American box office.
